Grant consummate boss, editor
4. November 2008 by Charles R. Richardson, Abilene, Texas
I was saddened to learn of the death of J. Marse Grant, editor emeritus of the
Biblical Recorder
. It was my privilege to be assistant editor at the time of his retirement in 1982.
Marse was a consummate Baptist editor, but more than that, he was a friend to hundreds and thousands of North Carolina Baptists. His weekends were busy often, speaking at small churches and hearing of newsworthy events, which were in the making.
My wife, Karin, and sons, Tim and Zach, all counted Marse and Marian Grant as true friends. He was “boss” but more than that, he was a Christian gentleman who dedicated himself to publishing one of the finest state Baptist publications within the ranks of Southern Baptists.
